The Release Actuator is used to provide firm restraint for the customer’s preloading bolt.
In orbit, a short electrical current pulse is applied to the Release Actuator, causing it to release the preloading bolt.
Example applications are Hold-Down and Release Mechanisms for solar arrays, antenna reflectors, deployable booms, covers and more. Release Actuators can also be used for attachment of spacecrafts to a launcher’s dispenser and releasing the spacecraft upon electrical command.
